(Moscow) – The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused Ukraine of having an “unclear” stance on peace negotiations, despite Russia itself failing to deliver a promised memorandum during the latest discussions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded firmly, stating that Moscow is deliberately dragging out the war and misleading the international community with false intentions.
Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated that Ukraine’s position regarding ongoing negotiations with Russia lacks clarity. Her brief comments, relayed by Russian state media, referred to discussions held in Turkey, where no new developments emerged from the Kremlin’s side. Despite earlier promises, the Russian delegation failed to produce any formal memorandum for the talks, which they had reportedly spent over a week preparing.
President Zelenskyy swiftly dismissed Moscow’s claims and reaffirmed that Ukraine has been open and consistent in its diplomatic stance. He accused Russia of manipulating the process to buy time, while continuing to escalate the war. Writing on social media, Zelenskyy emphasised that “everyone needs to speak honestly – especially those pushing for a ceasefire. Russia is prolonging the war and doing everything to deceive countries still relying on dialogue. Words do not work with Moscow.”
He highlighted that Russia had committed to providing a detailed memorandum, yet no such document was ever presented during the talks. According to Kyiv, this lack of action proves that Russia is not acting in good faith and is simply trying to portray Ukraine as uncooperative while continuing its aggression on the battlefield.
Ukrainian officials have repeatedly called for real international pressure, not empty dialogue, to halt the war.
