Activists Identify Suspected Wagner PMC Base Near Bulgaria’s Capital

The civic organization BOEC reported that it has identified a facility linked to the Russian private military company Wagner near the Bulgarian village of Kladnitsa in Pernik Province.

BOEC leader Georgi Georgiev stated this during a live social media broadcast on Sunday, according to Novinite.

Activists reported finding a small building in the mountains above Kladnitsa, which they believe is being used as a base for terrorist activities. Georgiev said the site is heavily guarded, with security personnel using dogs, and that access to the area is strictly controlled.

The released footage shows a Russian flag and the Wagner emblem displayed on the building. People seen near the site were wearing clothing and headgear bearing the paramilitary organization’s logo.

BOEC immediately submitted a report to Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior. The document emphasizes the presence of armed individuals and the symbols of a sanctioned terrorist organization on the country’s territory.

Representatives of the organization suggest that those present at the site may include current or former members of the security services. Activists believe this may explain why law enforcement authorities have taken no action so far.

BOEC (Bulgarian: БОЕЦ – Bulgaria United with One Goal) is an influential Bulgarian anti-corruption civic organization and civil movement.
