Defense Force units of Ukraine, including soldiers from the free Ichkeria, have defeated the largest group of the Akhmat unit of the Russian National Guard since 2022. This was reported by the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The issue is that fighters from the GUR special forces unit "Shamanbat," which includes soldiers from the free Ichkeria, together with the 104th Troops Brigade "Goryn," in cooperation with the GUR intelligence operations unit, destroyed another group of mercenaries from the Rosgvardia unit "Akhmat."
"Using drone and artillery strikes, reconnaissance forces destroyed enemy transport and armored vehicles, inflicting the heaviest losses on Kadyrov’s forces since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression," the Main Intelligence Directorate stated. Intelligence officials promise to release details of the unique operation to defeat the "Akhmatists" in the coming days. According to a brief announcement, it’s likely that at least 40 people were killed and 80 wounded.
According to open sources, the Akhmat special rapid response unit is a Rosgvardia unit that effectively reports directly to the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. The unit was created in 2009 to combat supporters of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Russian journalists have noted in their investigations that Akhmat has been implicated in kidnappings, torture, and extrajudicial executions, and that at least one secret prison is located on the unit’s premises.
During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Akhmat earned the ironic nickname "TikTok troops" because its fighters did not participate in combat, but instead filmed videos from the rear simulating violent confrontations with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Akhmat officer Iznaur Musayev and his subordinates were involved in the murder of Ukrainian civilians in the Buchinsky district of the Kyiv region in March 2022.
As a reminder, in the fall of 2025, Ukrainian drones attacked several military units in Chechnya. Among the targets hit was the territory of the 141st Separate Special Motorized Rifle Regiment "Akhmat-Sever." It was reported that the attack drones struck a military unit of the Akhmat-Sever Russian National Guard regiment, located in the Baysangurovsky district of Grozny.
It was noted that since 2022, this regiment has been participating in Russia’s war of conquest against Ukraine—its fighters are primarily deployed as second-tier troops and serve as personal security for the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Earlier, fighters from Ukraine’s 108th Kodatska Territorial Defense Brigade struck a group of Kadyrov-aligned “Akhmat” fighters advancing in a dense formation along a road. According to the brigade, Ukrainian forces coordinated closely with allied units, including drone operators and artillery crews from the Dnipro Battalion, to engage the target. The strike combined real-time aerial reconnaissance with precision artillery fire.
“In coordination with our ‘older brother’ and drone operators, the artillerymen of the Dnipro Battalion smashed the Akhmat unit to pieces. Despite losing a significant number of their associates, official Kadyrov sources continued to ‘sing’ praise to the ‘fearless highlanders’ who came to fight in Ukraine. The accurate fire of our artillery and UAV pilots became a cold shower for the hot heads of the Kadyrov fighters. Let the enemy tremble! Heroiam slava!” the brigade said in its statement.
The brigade added that infantry from the 1st Battalion initially detected the unit after it “turned the wrong way” and moved directly into a lethal engagement zone.
