A video has surfaced online showing a Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet spectacularly shooting down a Russian Shahed-136 kamikaze drone in the skies over Ukraine. The Air Force confirmed the shootdown, saying the pilot used an aircraft cannon to destroy the enemy attack drone. The published footage shows an enemy drone appearing in the sky with a distinctive sound, flying for a while, but a moment later exploding in a fireball. Soon, a Ukrainian F-16 fighter jet flies nearby, and instead of a drone, only clouds of black smoke remain in the sky, and debris falls to the ground. Eyewitnesses who filmed the shootdown joyfully welcomed the defeat of the Russian Shahed. The video’s commentary reported that the fighter pilot used the M61A1 Vulcan onboard cannon to destroy the air target. It is noted that "shooting down targets from such a distance is a mortal risk," since any mistake could lead to loss of control of the aircraft. "No, this is NOT AI-generated footage. This is a real Ukrainian pilot in an F-16 fighter jet epically destroying an enemy martyr over Ukraine!" the Ukrainian Air Force commented on the published footage. Defenders of Ukraine’s airspace added that such downings of Russian attack drones occur regularly during massive terrorist attacks by an aggressor state. "Ukrainian F-16s are a thorn in the enemy’s side, which is why the occupiers are constantly trying to destroy them! It won’t work!" they added in the comments. This aircraft, part of the 107th Aviation Wing of the Ukrainian Air Force, used its M61A1 Vulcan cannon against an enemy drone. It should be noted that shooting down targets at such a short distance is quite dangerous, so the pilot in the video demonstrated great courage and skill.
