Ukrainian troops pushed back Russian units to the northern and northwestern outskirts of Kupiansk to the Oskil River, significantly reducing the number of occupying forces on the right bank. The most challenging situation remains on the left bank, where crossings are daily under enemy fire and are being destroyed, however the defense forces continue to hold the bridgehead.
“In Kupiansk, the situation is much better than it was two months ago. The defense forces managed to push the Russians to the northern outskirts to the Oskil River, thus making their infiltration into the city impossible. The current state of affairs looks somewhat different from what we see on the map. Additionally, we managed to clear the Russians on the northwestern outskirts, in the wooded area, where they were trying to infiltrate”, Ukrainian military man Yuriy Fedorenko said.
As the military man spoke about the right-bank direction, the number of Russian-occupying forces has been reduced severalfold at the current moment. In the foreseeable perspective, the city of Kupiansk will be fully cleansed of both standard sabotage-reconnaissance groups and, possibly, incidental formations.
“If we talk about the left-bank bridgehead, it is quite hard to carry out tasks there, because we have to cross the crossings. The crossings are under enemy fire control through the use of guided air bombs, drones linked by fiber optics, and rocket weapons. Every day the crossings are destroyed, every day our men and women from engineering units restore them, guard them, defend them”, – Yuriy Fedorenko said.
According to him, despite the challenging logistics, the defense forces continue to hold the left-bank bridgehead. Kupiansk on the Deep State map as of December 1, 2025 shows Ukrainian units maintaining control in this sector.
“For us there is also another direction around Kupiansk – a pocket east of the river. There are our units and formations that are defending. The enemy is trying to cut off this grouping of ours, advancing from the Pisayne area. For our grouping, the logistics situation is not easy either, because it happens across the river. Previously this was through bridges in Kupiansk, through crossings. They organize them, and the enemy breaks them”, another military man Ihor Romanenko said. The battle for logistics is a crucial factor enabling combat actions by the units that ensure defense. In different locations, the situation plays out differently, but the essence remains unchanged: where supply is ensured, our units hold better and carry out tasks more effectively.
In the current conditions, the key is strengthening logistics chains and supporting units in no-man’s-land areas, which helps stabilize the defense of Kupiansk and the surrounding areas.
