In this episode of On The Record, host Adam Jasser speaks with Norway’s Minister of Defense Tore O. Sandvik about rising fears of a potential Russian threat to the Baltic states. With warnings from regional leaders and intelligence services that a military incident could occur within months, Sandvik pushes back, saying “Putin is not able to win in Ukraine. He will not have a chance against NATO.”
The Norwegian defense minister explains why NATO’s air dominance, troop presence, and coordinated defense make any attack on the Alliance a losing strategy for Moscow. At the same time, Sandvik stresses the urgency of continued support for Ukraine and calls on Europe to rapidly scale up its defense industry.
The interview also covers Norway’s strategic role on NATO’s northern flank, why it will not join the Bucharest Nine (B9) format, and whether Oslo could participate in international missions such as securing the Strait of Hormuz.
