Berlin Plans to Allocate New Funds for Artillery and Drones for Ukraine’s Armed Forces in 2026

Germany will increase aid to Ukraine by €3 billion in 2026.

Germany plans to increase financial assistance to Ukraine by about €3 billion in 2026, Reuters reported, citing two unnamed government sources.

The German finance and defense ministers plan to add €3 billion for Ukraine to the final budget adjustments for 2026.

This will cover the cost of artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two Patriot systems.

The second source said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz supports these plans, which are expected to be agreed upon.

“We will continue our support as long as necessary to defend against Russia’s aggressive war,” one of the sources told the news agency.

Germany remains the largest European donor of military aid to Ukraine: since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Berlin has provided about €40 billion.

The German budget for 2026 already provides €8.5 billion for Ukraine.

The European Commission recently authorized for the first time the use of EU aid to finance the salaries of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
