Ukraine’s defense industry can produce up to 10 million drones annually, Deputy Defense Minister Oleksandr Kozenko said at the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore.
Ukraine has taken its drone industry to a new level, developing innovative solutions for use in the air, on land and at sea, Deputy Defense Minister Oleksandr Kozenko said.
Kozenko said Ukraine’s defense sector now has the capacity to produce up to 10 million drones annually. He emphasized that domestically produced drones are significantly cheaper than foreign analogues and have already been tested in combat.
“Ukraine is changing its approach to the use of UAVs,” Kozenko said. “Currently, drones are responsible for 80% of all damage on the battlefield.”
Kozenko invited international defense companies to cooperate with Ukrainian manufacturers — offering opportunities for financing, joint ventures and the exchange of experience. Ukraine has emerged as one of the global leaders in the use of drones in the battlespace, turning UAVs into a key instrument of modern warfare. With constant improvements in technology and tactics, Ukrainian forces are striking targets deep behind enemy lines — often in places where Russian troops feel safest.
A vivid example of this was the Security Service of Ukraine’s special operation “Spider Web” on Sunday, during which drones simultaneously struck at least four Russian strategic bomber airbases, disabling dozens of aircraft that not only have been attacking civilian targets in the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine, but also make up a leg of Moscow’s nuclear triad.
In April, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine sees strong potential for continued growth in the drone sector. Since the start of 2025 alone, more than 20 new certified models of fiber-optic drones have been developed in Ukraine, he said.
