Bill Gates said Jeffrey Epstein’s email was "false", denying any wrongdoing during an interview with an Australian channel on Wednesday.
According to Associated Press the Microsoft co-founder said that he met Epstein in 2011, and knew of his wide-reaching network of possible funders.
"In retrospect that was a dead end and I was foolish to spend time. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him," he said.
He stressed that he "never went to the island," referring to Epstein’s infamous private Caribbean island.
"I never met any women…the more that comes out, the more clear it’ll be that although the time was a mistake, it had nothing to do with that kind of behavior," he added.
Epstein died by suicide in a jail cell in 2019, while awaiting trial on U.S. federal charges accusing him of sexually abusing dozens of girls.
