Emergency responders in southern Ecuador reported that 11 people died and at least 20 others were injured on Wednesday, when a bus plunged into a ravine where it caught fire. According to Associated Press Sixto Heras, Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department of Cuenca, said his team evaluated the injured and evacuated them to Cuenca, the nearest city. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident. Traffic accidents are common occur on Ecuador’s roads. According to official figures, 1,595 incidents were recorded at the start of 2026, resulting in 206 deaths.
