Construction of New 155mm Artillery Shell Plant Begins in Poland

On October 29 in the town of Krasnyk, Poland, MESKO S.A. started construction of a new plant to produce 155mm artillery shells.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz attended the groundbreaking and called the project “an investment in security and people.”

The new production unit will add 18,000 square meters to MESKO’s existing 9,000 square meters of facilities.

MESKO is Poland’s only manufacturer of 155mm artillery shells; the expansion is intended to satisfy domestic demand and to support allies, notably Ukraine.

Capital Investment Fund, from which Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) received $659.2 million, finances the project.

Of that amount, $243.6 million was allocated directly to MESKO to expand production capacity, modernize infrastructure, and establish new production lines.

The Defense Minister noted that production of 155mm ammunition is critical given the war in Ukraine. “Polish security begins on the Ukrainian front line,” Kosiniak‑Kamysz said, adding that Poland must be fully self‑sufficient in key munitions production.
