Denmark has chosen the European SAMP/T NG system to protect its airspace.
This first export contract calls for the delivery of SAMP/T NG components, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028, Thales announced.
“Denmark officially becomes the third country after France and Italy to join the SAMP/T NG air defense system user base,” the company noted.
The system includes the Thales Ground Fire surveillance radar, which has a range of up to 400 km, provides 360° panoramic coverage, and has an elevation angle of 90°.
The Ground Fire radar, which has been in serial production since early 2025, recently achieved successful results in qualification tests for the French version of the SAMP/T NG system.

The Danish variant of the SAMP/T NG air defense system will be equipped with the Ground Fire 300 radar.
It is capable of simultaneously detecting and tracking a wide range of threats—from drones and fighter jets to ballistic missiles—while maintaining the mobility characteristic of tactical radars.
Thales also serves as the system integrator for the SAMP/T NG combat management system and supplies the system’s “brain”—the ME-NG (Next Generation Engagement Module) command, control, and guidance module, developed in partnership with MBDA.
The Ground Fire radar and the ME-NG module ensure autonomy while maintaining a high level of operational readiness.

“Denmark will benefit from the increased production capacity of the SAMP/T NG and Aster missiles, with deliveries set to begin in 2028,” Thales noted.
The SAMP/T NG program is overseen by the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR). The Eurosam joint venture, established by Thales and MBDA, is the prime contractor for the entire system.

Meanwhile, in March, it was announced that Ukraine would test the SAMP/T NG air defense system in combat conditions to intercept ballistic missiles.
