Drone Halts Operations at Norwegian Airport

Drone Halts Operations at Norwegian Airport

The airport in Brønnøysund, Norway, suspended operations due to an unidentified drone on the evening of Tuesday, September 30.

The broadcaster NRK reported on this.

The police received the first report about the drone’s appearance at 8:17 p.m. local time.

At around 9:50 p.m., air traffic control staff at the airport visually observed a drone flying in close proximity to the airfield and immediately called the police.

The police conducted a search, but it yielded no results.

“We observed the drone in the air, but were unable to locate any pilot connected to it. After an extensive search, we concluded the operation at the scene,” Morten Sørensen, a representative of the Nordland Police District, stated.

According to Karoline Persen, spokesperson for Avinor, the company that operates Norwegian airports, despite the incident, the last scheduled flight was still able to land at Brønnøysund Airport.

Afterwards, the airfield was closed for the night and was scheduled to resume normal operations on the morning of October 1.

This is not the first similar incident at Brønnøysund Airport recently. On Sunday, September 28, drones were also detected in the no-fly zone, resulting in the diversion of one flight to an alternative airport.

The day before, a drone was spotted over a gas field in the North Sea off the coast of Norway.

On September 27, the Norwegian police announced plans to tighten drone flight regulations around four airports in the Nordland region, following reports of possible drone sightings near the Ørland military airbase.

Finland will send a contingent to Denmark to assist in countering drones that are disrupting airport operations and flying over military facilities.
