Drone Strike in Vyborg Causes New Russian FSB Patrol Ship to List

After a Ukrainian drone attack, an Arctic patrol ship under construction for the Border Guard of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) listed and collided with another vessel.

This is evidenced by photos from the scene published by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.

The damaged ship is located at the Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant in the Leningrad Region, where work on its completion and outfitting is ongoing.

The images show that the ship is listing to port and has collided with the oceanographic research vessel Vice-Admiral Burilichev (Project 22011), which is moored nearby, with its superstructure. Such a position may indicate that the hull has been breached.

The damaged vessel is likely the ice-class border patrol ship Purga (Project 23550, code name Yermak), the lead ship of a two-ship order.

The new vessel, intended for operations in Arctic conditions, is being built for the Border Service of Russia’s Federal Security Service.

According to the design, it is to be armed with a 76 mm AK-176MA naval gun, two 30 mm six-barrel AK-306M anti-aircraft artillery systems, four 12.7 mm machine guns, and launchers for man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS).
