On the morning of Thursday, April 16, drones hit an electrical substation in the Russian city of Belgorod.
The local Pepel Telegram channel reported the incident and shared footage of the aftermath.
According to available information, the drones struck the Yuzhnaya substation on Gubkina Street. The hit sparked a fire at the site, which eyewitnesses saw.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor, confirmed the strike and said that power was out on several streets, including in the city center.
Following the fire caused by the strike, police closed off part of Gubkina Street, causing a traffic jam.

Due to the power outage, traffic lights are not working on some streets.
The extent of the damage to the electrical substation in the Russian city is currently unknown.
Energy infrastructure in Belgorod has been targeted before. For example, a Ukrainian missile strike on the night of February 18 disabled the Michurinskaya gas turbine thermal power plant operated by the GT Energo company.

The plant supplies power to the production facilities and administrative buildings of the Belenergomash-BZEM factory and is not connected to the city’s district heating system.
The company specializes in producing equipment for Russia’s energy, oil and gas, petrochemical, and nuclear industries.

Missiles have repeatedly struck the local Luch combined heat and power plant.
It is one of Belgorod’s key energy facilities, running on natural gas and supplying electricity and heat to the Kharkovskaya Gora district and other parts of the city.
