Ex-Energy Minister arrested trying to flee Ukraine | Ukraine Brief

Another round of U.S.-brokered peace talks between Ukraine and Russia is set to begin in Geneva on Tuesday. All while Russian strikes continue to wound civilians, and damage homes and critical infrastructure, as more than 1,500 residential buildings in Kyiv remain without heating. Herman Halushchenko, Ukraine’s former energy minister, has been charged by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine with money laundering and organized crime in a sweeping investigation tied to Energoatom, and an alleged $100 million offshore fund scheme, marking one of the largest corruption scandals of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presidency. Ukrainian security services also confirmed that they thwarted a planned car bombing in Kyiv.
