Explosion in Moscow Kills Senior Military Official

A car carrying a high-ranking Russian military official was blown up in southern Moscow.

According to sources cited by MNS and VChK-OGPU, the explosion occurred on the Yasenevaya Street. The apparent target of the attack was Major General Fanil Sarvarov, who had entered his personal Kia Sorento and started driving when the blast occurred. The vehicle was heavily damaged.

The senior officer reportedly sustained multiple shrapnel injuries and fractures. His condition is described as serious.

Fanil Sarvarov was born on March 11, 1969, in the city of Gremyachinsk, Perm Region.

In 1990, he graduated from the Kazan Higher Tank Command School and later continued his education at military academies.

In 1999, he graduated from the Malinovsky Military Armored Forces Academy, and in 2008, he completed his studies at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

From 1992 to 2003, Sarvarov participated in combat operations in the North Caucasus for six years, including the Ossetian-Ingush conflict and the Chechen War.

In 2015–2016, he carried out tasks related to the organization and conduct of Russian military operations in Syria.

At the time of his death, Sarvarov held the position of head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

He was responsible for key aspects of the army’s operational readiness.
