What does it take to save lives when resources are limited?
In the new episode of Close-Up, TVP World’s journalist Aleksandra Żaczek looks at the challenges facing emergency services in Kenya, where rapid urban growth and limited resources put lives at risk.
The episode features the report “Kenya,” by Franciszek Pilis, which shows the reality of firefighting in a country struggling with a shortage of trained personnel, frequent fires and building collapses. The story spotlights two firefighters, Michael and Gideon, who view their job not just as a profession, but as a calling.
The report sheds light on training programs led by Polish firefighters at the Fire and Rescue Training Center, supported by the Polish Center for International Aid, aimed at strengthening local capacity and improving emergency response.
The episode also includes a conversation with Jan Wysocki from the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM), who discusses the importance of these training initiatives and the realities of rescue work in Kenya.
