A fight broke out in the Armenian parliament after a speech by Artur Sargsyan, a member of the opposition faction "Armenia", who is to be stripped of his immunity and arrested in connection with an attempt to seize power by force and prepare a terrorist attack. This was stated live on air by the MP from the "Armenia" faction, Kristine Vardanyan.
Sargsyan stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office’s accusations against him are false and that his persecution is political.
"In democratic countries, there are many cases when the prosecutor general comes to parliament, realizing that he has no guarantee that the petition will be satisfied. But we are in an unprecedented bastion of democracy, or more specifically, a bastion of dictatorship. Here, everything is decided in advance, written down, approved," he said.
According to her, after his speech, Sargsyan said that he intended to go home and wait for a decision there. A member of the pro-government Civil Contract faction, Vahe Galumyan, ran up to him and a scuffle began.
After Sargsyan left the National Assembly session hall, assistants of the ruling party deputies also burst into the hall and tried to attack Sargsyan. The State Security Service also burst into the hall to separate them.
