A multi-storey residential building has collapsed in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s Dagestan republic, during a massive flood caused by torrential rains.
According to officials, rising water washed away the soil beneath the building, causing it to slide into a nearby river.
According to Associated Press all residents were evacuated in time and no casualties were reported in the incident.
Heavy rains began battering Dagestan in late March, triggering widespread flooding across the region.
In the Derbent district, surging water breached a dam at the Gedzhukh reservoir, sending torrents into several nearby settlements.
The water flooded homes and caused significant destruction.
A car carrying a local family was swept off a highway and carried approximately 2.5 kilometres by the floodwaters.
A grandmother and her granddaughter were unable to escape and died.
Local authorities say 4 people have died and 10 people remain missing, with rescue teams continuing search operations.
Around 4,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas, officials added.
