Putin’s claims of Russia’s successes on the front are largely propaganda, but the situation for the Defense Forces there remains challenging. Igor Romanenko, Lieutenant General and former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke about this on Channel 24.
"In Pokrovsk, our forces are holding the northern part of the city, along with units operating in Myrnohrad. They’re trying to encircle them, especially that pocket south of Myrnohrad. The situation there is dire. Essentially, our troops’ combat operations are focused on holding logistical supply routes as much as possible. And to prevent the enemy from entrenching themselves there, special forces are conducting raids, preventing them from gaining a foothold," Romanenko said.
He added that the Russians are attempting to completely encircle the Ukrainian Defense Forces near Pokrovsk, but have so far been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the general noted, the situation near Kupyansk is better for the Ukrainian defenders.
"There, our troops are cutting off the Russians’ logistical routes in the northwestern part. Those two advances, these two penetrations. And understanding the consequences, the Russians are taking appropriate action to prevent it. And the situation is difficult for our garrison east of Kupyansk, where logistical support is provided across the river," Romanenko added.
Russian generals reporting on the situation at the front to Vladimir Putin, the instigator of the war against Ukraine, are misinforming the dictator. This opinion was expressed by military observer Denis Popovich on the Suspilne channel .
"After Putin said Komsomolsk had been captured, we could have stopped listening to him. The city of Komsomolsk doesn’t even exist in the Donetsk region. It’s not even renamed. He apparently meant Horishni Plavni, but that’s in the Poltava region. I wouldn’t cite Putin’s words, since he’s clearly being misinformed. Where the information he voices live comes from is a question for his generals, who prepare his reports," Popovich emphasized. What Putin said is nonsense.
The expert commented on the Russian dictator’s assertion that the occupiers have nearly captured Vovchansk and have almost completely captured Kupyansk. As the observer noted, fighting continues in Vovchansk. At the same time, the city is now in ruins, a consequence of last year’s ongoing fighting.
"The situation there was complicated by the enemy’s recent successes. But, as of today, it’s impossible to even say the enemy has control of Vovchansk. In other words, the city is holding," Popovich noted. He separately noted that the situation in the Pokrovsk-Mirnohrad agglomeration area is tense.
"It’s hard to say it’s stabilized. The enemy is trying to enter Myrnohrad. The enemy is trying to encircle Myrnohrad. In Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ positions are north of the railway, which divides Pokrovsk into two parts. The parts are slightly uneven. The smaller part is the northern part, which is behind the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The southern part is more of the Russian army’s positions," Popovich said.
He noted that information about Ukrainian troops breaking through into the city center or the presence of occupation forces in the area of the train station indicates that "heavy street fighting continues and the situation is fluid."
