For the first time in Russia, a de facto admission of the failure of the war against Ukraine was made at such a high level. Colonel General Vladimir Chirkin, former head of the Russian Ground Forces, openly stated that the Kremlin launched the war without preparation and under the influence of faulty intelligence. He made the loud statement on the pro-Kremlin channel RBC.
Chirkin recalled that before the invasion, the Russian authorities assured themselves of a quick victory and a repeat of the five-day war with Georgia. According to him, this overconfidence was based on the false belief that Ukrainians were expecting Putin’s army. " Russia was once again unprepared for war… Moreover, as usual, they underestimated the enemy and overestimated their own forces. Everyone, if you recall, was saying on February 24th that the war would be over in three days, ‘we’ll beat them now.’ The ‘Tbilisi syndrome’ was at work somewhere… Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way. I would give our entire intelligence community a failing grade. The country’s leadership was fed false information that 70% of Ukraine was for us, 30% against. It turned out to be exactly the opposite: 30% for us, 70% against! We already know what happened. In just the first few weeks, we learned a serious, harsh lesson ," the Russian general stated. By "lesson," he means the defeat of Putin’s army near Kyiv and the forced flight from all of northern Ukraine. Chirkin even hinted that Russia suffered such terrible losses during those events that the authorities are afraid to speak about them. " The former Minister of Defense Shoigu tried to make a graceful exit from this situation, calling it a ‘goodwill gesture.’ Our army knows how many wounded, dead, and maimed we left there. And I think the story hasn’t been fully told ," the former commander said. The general’s statements demonstrate that the Kremlin began the war without understanding the scale of the resistance or the true state of its own armed forces. This admission, aired on a Russian television channel, became one of the most direct and stark testimonies of the failure of Putin’s strategy throughout the war.
Previously Z-blogger Maxim Kalashnikov summarized the dire results of the war against Ukraine for Russia. He said that results of the four-year war against Ukraine have been disastrous for Russia. The main objectives have been failed.
He is confident that the war is entering a freeze phase, as Russia is no longer in a position to continue it due to the looming "economic disaster." Active negotiations on a peace plan also indicate that the hot phase of aggression will soon end. " The war has come to a standstill… No matter what the terms of the ceasefire are in a number of areas, we have already lost ," Kalashnikov said. He recalled the failure of the blitzkrieg in February 2024, which led the Russian Federation to a long and very bloody war of attrition. " A long, bloody slaughter prevented his greatest fear—the re-creation of the Russian Empire ," wrote a distraught Z-patriot. He added that the "sea of blood" had divided Ukrainians and Russians, and the remnants of pro-Russian sentiment in Ukraine had vanished.
