Record snowfall in Russia’s Far East Kamchatka region has buried high-rise buildings, leaving everyone stunned. Videos of the snow-covered region have gone viral in social media. Almost everything in Kamchatka is buried under snow, residents are struggling to find their cars, and are even jumping out of their apartment windows into the fluffy snow to get to the street. Residents were spotted carving out tunnels to get beyond their homes, while others chose to turn the situation around by enjoying and playing in the snow. In some areas, snowdrifts reached nearly the height of a nine-story building. In many districts, residents have been trapped in their homes: building entrances were completely blocked by snow, forcing people to clear exits on their own or leave buildings through first-floor windows. Severe weather has also seriously disrupted air traffic and public transportation. Police, the National Guard, Emergency Situations Ministry rescuers, and ambulance crews have been deployed to deal with the consequences of the record snowfall. Classes at schools and colleges have been suspended, while kindergartens are operating with duty groups only. Back in December 2025, more than three monthly norms of precipitation fell in Russia’s Kamchatka Territory, and heavy snowfalls continued into the new year. Two people in the Far East have died due to snow falling from a building’s roof.
