Footage filmed in Saadiyat in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday shows a plume of smoke rising in the distance at Zayed Port, the main port of Abu Dhabi. According to Associated Press France opened a French naval base in 2009 at Abu Dhabi’s Port Zayed, which is visible just across the water from Saadiyat Island. The French defense minister said a drone strike damaged Sunday a hangar at a French naval base at the port of Abu Dhabi. No injuries were reported and the damage was limited, Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin said in a social media post. The base is adjacent to an Emirati base. "The vigilance of our forces is at its maximum level in the face of a situation that is evolving hour to hour,” Vautrin said. France has a significant military presence in the Middle East, including bases around the Gulf. The strike came as Iran vowed revenge Sunday after the killing of its supreme leader in U.S.-Israeli strikes Saturday. Iran has since retaliated with missiles and drone attacks on Israel and nearby Arab Gulf countries hosting U.S. forces. While Iran struck U.S. bases in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, the attacks have also hit outside of military installations, including a hotel in the Emirati city of Dubai, and Kuwait’s international airport. At least four people have been killed in strikes on Gulf countries.
