Iran’s Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammed Pakpour are believed to have been killed in Israeli attacks, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing two Israeli and one regional source. Earlier, Iranian authorities denied the report about Mohammed Pakpour’s killing. A channel affiliated with the regime said that “all commanders of Iran’s armed forces are safe and sound” and urged the public to disregard what it described as rumors spread by hostile media. This comes after US and Isarel launched joint air strikes on Iran on Saturday morning. Earlier reports from Israeli sources indicated that the strikes on Iran were aimed at Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking Iranian officials, including Armed Forces Chief of Staff Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi and President Masoud Pezeshkian. Additional reported targets included Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s newly formed Defence Council, and Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s National Security Council. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s residence in capital Tehran was also hit on Saturday, with satellite image showing black smoke rising from the facility. The whereabouts of Khamenei is unknown. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister said on Saturday that "we may have lost a few commanders, but that’s not such a big problem," according to an NBC News reporter on X. US and Israel launched air strikes across Iran on Saturday, causing explosions in many cities, including Tehran. Iran retaliated by launching unprecedented wave of strikes on Israel and US bases across the Middle East. According to CNN, the US is planning for several days of attacks.
