Ischinger: Ukraine ceasefire could threaten NATO’s Eastern Flank | Ukraine Brief

European officials are questioning whether a peace deal with Russia would truly secure Europe. Munich Security Conference Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger warned that a ceasefire could increase threats to NATO’s eastern flank.

Speaking on Monday, Ischinger said transatlantic relations are facing a crisis of confidence, urging greater attention to Russia’s continued attacks on the Ukrainian population.

Another night of Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine killed at least five civilians and targeted residential and energy infrastructure.

Ischinger also announced that the Conference’s annual Ewald von Kleist award will honor the Ukrainian people, emphasizing ongoing Russian terror despite talks of negotiation.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is expanding defense cooperation with European partners, signing a joint arms production agreement – particularly with France.
