On the night of December 23, Ukrainian drones attacked Budyonnovsk, causing fires in the industrial zone, according to Vladimir Vladimirov, Governor of Stavropol Krai.
According to him, there were no casualties, and residential buildings and the city’s vital infrastructure were not damaged. He did not provide any other details.
The Astra publication analyzed videos of fires posted on social media and suggested that the Stavrolen petrochemical plant, which produces polyethylene and polypropylene, was attacked. The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ also reported on the fire near the plant .
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 29 Ukrainian drones overnight. Most of the drones were shot down over the Rostov Region and Stavropol Krai.
Stavrolen LLC is a major petrochemical company, part of the Lukoil Group. The plant is Russia’s second-largest polyethylene producer and third-largest polypropylene producer. The plant has an annual capacity of over 300,000 tons of polyethylene, 120,000 tons of polypropylene, as well as benzene and vinyl acetate. The plant’s products are used as raw materials in various Russian industries.
The Stavrolen plant was already targeted by drones in mid- November and at the end of October.
