Over the weekend, Ukraine launched large-scale drone attacks targeting Russia, including the Moscow region, in what President Zelenskyy called an “entirely justified” response to Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians. The Moscow Oil Refinery, located approximately 17 kilometers from the Kremlin, came under heavy Ukrainian fire on Saturday.
On Sunday, Russian strikes against Ukraine claimed the lives of at least 4 people, with over 4 dozen more wounded.
Kyiv also announced on Monday that it has completed development of a Ukrainian guided aerial bomb that does not employ technology from Western or Soviet-era weapons systems.
To discuss Ukraine’s massive drone strike on Moscow and the surrounding region – which reportedly penetrated Russia’s most advanced air defenses – as well as who could serve as Europe’s negotiator in potential peace talks, Ukraine Brief’s host Don Arleth is joined by Andreas Umland, Policy Fellow at the European Policy Institute in Kyiv.
