Mitigating space debris and ensuring satellite safety | Top Report

The European Space Agency is making significant strides in space exploration, with over 40 mission and satellite launches in 2025 alone. However, maintaining the safety and functionality of these satellites presents ongoing challenges, especially with the increasing presence of space debris and active satellites. European engineers work tirelessly to monitor, track, and avoid collisions. TVP World’s Correspondent Sonja Agata Bišćan visited the European Space Operations Center in Darmstadt, where she spoke with Thomas Ormston, Sentinel-1 Mission Spacecraft Operations Manager, and Tim Flohrer, Director of the Space Debris Office, to learn more about the work that ensures Europe’s vital space assets remain secure amid the crowded and hazardous space environment.
