Ukraine has launched a drone attack on an oil base in Mateyev Kurgan settlement in Russia’s southern Rostov region. Video footage showing the moment of the strikes was shared in social media platforms on Thursday. The attack was followed by strong fire and a thick smoke visible for dozens of kilometres. Russian air defences destroyed three UAVs during repulsion of the attack, the regional governor reported. Information about the casualties is being clarified. As a result of the attack, windows, facades, and roofs of several residential houses, as well as five vehicles, were damaged in Matveyev Kurgan settlement. The footage captured by local residents and shared in social media shows a strike on the facility, followed by a large fire. “We’re in a full-scale war now. The oil depot is hit,” one social media user has posted. Ukraine has recently scaled up long-range missile and drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure to undermine Moscow’s war efforts. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksiy said Ukraine’s newly developed long-range missiles and drones are causing significant gas shortages in Russia. Zeleneksiy named Ruta missile drone, Liutyi and Fire Point long-range drones among weapons used to strike Russian oil platforms. Zelenskiy revealed that Russia has lost up to 20% of their gasoline supply “precisely” after Ukrainian strikes. It should be noted that Ukrainian attacks have disabled around forty percent of Russia’s oil refining capacity.
