Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had indeed accepted a request from U.S. President Donald Trump to "refrain from striking Kyiv" until Feb. 1. According to Associated Press Peskov said Trump had made a "personal request" to Putin "to create favorable conditions for negotiations." Asked if Moscow had agreed to the proposal, Peskov said "yes, of course," but refused to answer further questions about whether the agreement referred to strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure or attacks altogether.
On Thursday, Trump said that Putin had agreed to the request, as regions of Ukraine experience frigid temperatures that have brought widespread hardship to civilians.
