Miami, FL / Newark, NJ — Authorities have arrested a Staten Island man and his mother at Miami International Airport in connection with a fatal street racing crash on New Jersey’s Garden State Parkway.

According to prosecutors, Alvi Limani, 20, is accused of participating in an illegal street race on June 29, 2025, that ended in a violent collision, killing one person and seriously injuring another. Investigators say Limani fled the scene on foot, abandoning the wrecked vehicle, and later attempted to evade capture by leaving the country.

Police allege that Limani’s mother, Vilma Vneshta, 42, actively assisted her son’s escape plan. On July 17, U.S. Marshals and Port Authority police apprehended the pair at Miami International Airport, shortly before they were set to board an international flight.

Limani faces multiple charges, including aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, causing death while driving with a suspended license, hindering apprehension, tampering with public records, and assault by auto. Vneshta is charged with hindering or obstruction.

The fatal crash occurred during what officials describe as a “high-speed, reckless race” along the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway. Witnesses reported two vehicles weaving through traffic moments before the collision.

Authorities say the victim, whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, died at the scene. Another individual remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Both suspects are being held in custody and are expected to be extradited to New Jersey to face the charges. Officials have not disclosed the intended destination of their planned international travel.

The case has reignited concerns over illegal street racing in the tri-state area, with law enforcement warning of stepped-up patrols and severe penalties for offenders.

“Street racing is not only illegal—it’s deadly,” a spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police said. “We will pursue those responsible for endangering lives, no matter how far they try to run.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and prosecutors say additional charges are possible.
