NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored fallen soldiers in Kyiv on Tuesday as the military alliance vowed ongoing support for Ukraine. According to Associated Press they placed candles and held a moment of silence at the People’s Memorial of National Remembrance – a spontaneous site of remembrance where people leave flags, portraits, and candles in honor of the fallen. “Our duty is to preserve the memory of our fallen heroes,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
Rutte’s visit to Kyiv comes a day before Russia and Ukraine were due to attend U.S.-brokered talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on ending the all-out war, which Russia launched nearly four years ago.
