NATO’s new Supreme Commander in Europe, General Alexus Grinkevich, has confirmed that Ukraine will soon receive American Patriots. Preparations are already in full swing, while the Alliance command is simultaneously developing a plan to suppress Russia’s Kaliningrad. Russia is encircled and under pressure. The British publication The Guardian reports the details .
The message was clear and immediate: Ukraine is a priority, and there is no time to waste. NATO’s new Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Grinkevich, said he had been given a direct order to deliver Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine as quickly as possible. The Patriot batteries in question are already in Europe and can be quickly deployed to Ukraine. U.S. production lines will fill those deliveries later. "I’m not going to reveal the numbers or the timing, but preparations are well underway. We are working closely with Germany and I have been told to move as quickly as possible," the general told The Guardian.
The seriousness of the decisions is also evidenced by the fact that even deliveries to Switzerland are now postponed : five Patriots ordered by it will be delayed: the US is redistributing the systems in favor of Ukraine. The priority is obvious: protection from Russian missiles and drones in a real war is more important than formal deliveries to allies. The Wall Street Journal was right that Trump offered Merz to sell five systems at once, not two. The New York Times was right that the systems are Swiss.
Meanwhile, the commander of the US Army in Europe and the commander of NATO ground forces, General Christopher Donahue, for the first time publicly confirmed the existence of a plan to suppress Russian defenses in the Kaliningrad region. "Kaliningrad is 47 miles of land surrounded by NATO countries. There is no reason why we cannot suppress the A2AD zone from the ground, and we have already planned for that," Donahue said at a conference in Wiesbaden. Washington is no longer shy about its wording.
In parallel, NATO is developing the Eastern Flank Deterrence Line strategy. This is not just a policy, but a technical and operational plan: common weapons, compatible launch systems, unified digital coordination, integration of all Alliance countries. The key idea is to deprive Russia of even the hope of influence and maneuver along NATO’s eastern flank. Donahue emphasized: "We are already seeing all of this implemented in Ukraine. We have learned how to destroy A2AD zones from the ground, and now we can do the same in any direction."
For the Kremlin, this is several pieces of bad news: 1. Ukraine is being pumped with the most expensive weapons faster than ever; 2. NATO is preparing infrastructure that can strike Kaliningrad before Russia has time to react; 3. The United States is effectively moving into a regime of direct military-technical prioritization of Ukraine, even to the detriment of other countries. And all this in conditions where the Russian economy is stalling, and the isolated army is losing the skies over its own territory time and again.
