Two Russian aircraft violated Lithuanian airspace from the Kaliningrad region.
This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 23 at around 6 p.m. near the town of Kibartai.
According to the Lithuanian military, a Su-30 fighter jet and an Il-76 tanker aircraft crossed the border during refueling exercises in the air.
The Russian aircraft penetrated approximately 700 meters into NATO airspace.
They remained there for about 18 seconds before leaving Lithuanian territory.
NATO fighter jets, Spanish Eurofighter Typhoons, were scrambled to intercept them and are now patrolling the area of the violation.
The Lithuanian military has not yet provided detailed information about the incident.
Such actions, given recent events, may be provocative in nature.
In September, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace without permission near the island of Vaindlo, where they remained for almost 12 minutes.
The planes had no flight plans, their transponders were turned off, and there was no communication with Estonian air traffic controllers.
In the past, such incursions into airspace lasted less than a minute, while the two previous violations this year lasted about four minutes.
