DRUZHBA PIPELINE RESTART NEARS, OPENING WAY FOR €90B EU LOAN FOR UKRAINE
The European Union’s top diplomat has hinted that the bloc’s €90 billion loan could be unlocked in the next 24 hours. The decision hinges on the restoration of the flow of oil to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline, and the Hungarian government finally lifting its veto.
PEACE TALKS STALL AS RUSSIA ESCALATES ATTACKS ON UKRAINE
Russia launched more than 140 drones and ballistic missiles into Ukraine overnight, killing at least six people and injuring 59 across the country. Strikes were reported in Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. All the while, peace talks between the U.S., Russia and Ukraine indicate no progress.
RUSSIA SELLS OFF GOLD
Russia has sold 22 tons of gold since the beginning of 2026 to help fund its budget deficit. By the end of March, the deficit reached €52 billion as oil and gas revenues fell sharply in the early months of the year.
