Neutralizes Fiber-Optic Drones: Epirus Tests Leonidas Microwave System

U.S. defense company Epirus has successfully tested the Leonidas microwave system, which is capable of neutralizing fiber-optic drones.

According to Epirus, a smaller version of Leonidas disabled a fiber-optic drone during tests conducted at a U.S. government test site in December last year.

The company reported that this was the first documented case of a system using electromagnetic effects neutralizing this type of drone, opening new possibilities for countering modern unmanned threats.

The test involved the Leonidas Vehicle Kit (VK), a compact, mobile version of the system mounted on a pickup truck. Its technical characteristics have not been disclosed, but analysts believe it is intended for close-range protection.

The Leonidas system is a vehicle-mounted, directional high-power microwave (HPM) system that emits concentrated microwave energy to disrupt drone electronics, causing them to crash.

Unlike traditional methods such as radio jamming, interception, or gunfire, Leonidas generates an electromagnetic field that induces internal failures in unmanned aerial vehicle electronics.

Militarnyi previously reported that Epirus held a demonstration of the Leonidas microwave system (IFPC-HPM) in the summer of 2025, showcasing its capability to counter conventionally controlled drones.
