Russia is currently enjoying some success on the battlefield, but the situation within the aggressor country appears to be deteriorating. The Kremlin has failed to occupy all the Ukrainian territories it had been planning since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister and diplomat Volodymyr Ohryzko told Channel 24 that he’s noticed a certain trend: Russia is starting to look for a scapegoat for all the Kremlin’s failures. While it’s unclear when this will happen, the process is likely already underway.
Vladimir Ohryzko noted that one sign of the Kremlin’s predicament is the fact that Sergey Lavrov’s recent conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio went very poorly. He failed to reach an agreement on the previously announced meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest.
Now the Kremlin is urgently searching for the first person to be hanged on the "thick bank." We were counting on an international tribunal and court, but there’s a feeling they’ll start hanging each other right now, and quite demonstratively,
" the diplomat said.
He suggested that Putin could not hold Foreign Minister Lavrov responsible for all the failures.
There were earlier reports that he wanted to resign, but the Kremlin dictator refused to let him go, likely because he believed he was fulfilling his outwardly propaganda goals well. Now, however, the situation has apparently changed .
Therefore, serious changes could begin at the very top of the Kremlin. This is a positive trend for Ukraine.
Recall, the absence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov from a recent meeting of the Russian Security Council sparked a wave of rumors and speculation in Moscow—so much so that the Kremlin was forced to officially respond.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, assured journalists on Friday that Lavrov "remains in his post as foreign minister," and called reports of his alleged resignation "untrue."
Speculation was sparked by the "noticeable absence of the top diplomat" from Wednesday’s Security Council meeting. During the meeting, Putin discussed the possibility of "resumption of nuclear testing," and Lavrov’s absence raised eyebrows even among sources close to the Kremlin. According to propaganda media, he was "absent by agreement," but he was "the only permanent member of the Council" to miss the meeting.
Rumors intensified after the news that Lavrov "will not lead the Russian delegation" at the G20 summit in Johannesburg. Putin has instead appointed "Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin" to represent the country.
Some analysts believe this may indicate "internal disagreements between Lavrov and the Kremlin," especially after the failure of an attempt to organize a meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest. Lavrov was one of the key negotiators, but after his conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the summit was shelved.
