The Russian state corporation Rostec has delivered a batch of new small-sized missiles to the Russian Armed Forces for the Pantsir air defense system, designed specifically to counter drones.
This was reported on the corporation’s official Telegram account.
The new TKB-1055 missiles are 2–3 times smaller than the standard missiles used in the Pantsir-S1 system and, according to the developers, offer increased effectiveness against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Thanks to their reduced size, the number of ready-to-launch missiles amounts to 48 units. They are mounted in four-tube containers, which are installed in place of the standard 95Ya6-type launchers.
A combined armament capability is also claimed — allowing the simultaneous use of both new and standard missiles for more effective engagement of various types of targets.
According to specifications, the TKB-1055 missile has a launch range of 500 to 7,000 meters, and an altitude engagement envelope of 15 to 5,000 meters.
As with the 95Ya6, targeting is performed via radio command guidance, which makes the missile cheaper compared to similar models that use more advanced and autonomous infrared or active homing seekers.
It is worth noting that these missiles were first presented at the Russian ARMY-2024 defense industry exhibition by the High-Precision Systems holding.
At that time, the new TKB-1055 missiles were demonstrated on the stationary version of the Pantsir-SM-D-E system.
