Russia Attacks Civilian Vessel Heading to Ukrainian Port

Russian forces attacked a civilian cargo ship flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was heading to one of the ports of Greater Odesa to load grain.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.

While traveling through the Ukrainian maritime corridor, the bulk carrier was struck by two drones. A fire broke out on board, which was extinguished by the crew.

According to information from the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, the attack caused the ship’s navigation system to malfunction. A patrol boat was dispatched to escort the vessel. The crew was not injured as a result of the attack.

A previous attack on a civilian vessel occurred on April 14. At that time, Russian forces attacked a civilian vessel flying the Liberian flag that was heading to the port of Odesa.

It was traveling through a maritime corridor to load corn when it was struck by a Russian attack drone. The strike caused a fire on board, which the crew was able to quickly extinguish. After the attack, the ship continued on its way and reached its destination port.

In addition, on April 23, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed an enemy unmanned surface vehicle (USV) near the Odesa region, which was attempting to approach one of the region’s seaports.
