Russia is calling for the US to "respond militarily" for the detention of the Russian tanker Marinera. Specifically, to "strike with torpedoes" and attempt to sink a couple of American warships.This statement was made to Russian media by Russian MP and First Deputy of the Defense Committee Alexei Zhuravlev.

Specifically, Zhuravlev stated that the tanker’s seizure could allegedly be considered an "illegal invasion of Russia’s borders." Therefore, a "powerful military response" to the US actions is required.

"Such an attack can be classified as an illegal crossing of our border, in other words, a full-fledged military invasion of Russia," he said. At the same time, the deputy called on Russia to give a "military response" to the Americans, for example, "launch torpedoes" and "sink a couple of ships" that belong to the American Navy.

"To engage in combat with American Coast Guard boats, which have not only strayed too far from both Americas, but have also completely confused the coastlines," the Russian said.

As a reminder, Reuters previously reported that the US seized a Venezuela-linked oil tanker after more than two weeks of pursuit in the Atlantic Ocean. The tanker turned out to be the Bella1, which had changed its name to Marinera and its flag to Russian. It was seized by a landing force, with assistance from the UK .

In addition to the Marinera tanker in the Atlantic Sea, the US seized another vessel from Russia’s sanctioned "shadow fleet" in the Caribbean Sea – the tanker Sophia .

This news triggered intense hysteria in Russia. The Russian Federation reacted sharply to the seizure of the Marinera tanker by American troops on the high seas, declaring it a violation of international law and a threat to the vessel’s safety.

US accused the Mariner of violating sanctions related to the transportation of oil from Venezuela. Furthermore, the US military detained the tanker Sophia in the Caribbean Sea.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Transport accused the United States of violating the UN Convention during the seizure of the tanker.
