Russia has resumed attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, cutting electricity supply to consumers in several regions.
Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister of Energy, Artem Nekrasov, said power outages have been recorded in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions.
Due to strain on the power system, emergency electricity shutdowns are being introduced in a number of areas. More than 160 settlements in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions are also without power because of severe weather.
Despite a declared ceasefire, Russian forces continued to strike civilian targets in Ukraine on February 1.
Russian drones hit a service bus belonging to an energy company near the Ternivska mine in the Pavlohrad district, killing 12 mine workers and injuring 16 others.
On the same day, Russian forces shelled Zaporizhzhia, striking a maternity hospital. The hospital’s gynecology department was hit.
At the time of the attack, 15 medical staff members and 16 patients were sheltering in the bunker, including three women who had recently given birth with their newborns. A doctor, a nurse, and a patient of a private dental clinic were injured.
