A Bombardier ARTEMIS II reconnaissance aircraft was spotted over the Black Sea. It departed from Mihail Kogălniceanu Airport in Romania. It was spotted on maps by users of the flight monitoring service Flightradar24. The aircraft was first spotted near the Russian border in 2020. In 2020, this aircraft was based in Romania. From there, it flew to Georgia and conducted reconnaissance missions near the Belarusian border and the Russian enclave. The aircraft’s presence was also detected twice in 2022, when it took off from the Romanian airport in Constanta and headed toward the Crimean Peninsula. Upon reaching the coast, the aircraft circled the southern coast and headed for the naval base in Novorossiysk. Its final destination was the area on the border between Russia and Abkhazia.
The aircraft also took part in military exercises in the Baltic Sea in 2021. The Baltops-2021 maneuvers were used for its testing. According to the US Department of Defense, the aircraft’s appearance near the Kaliningrad region was not a surprise to Russian air defense systems. The ARTEMIS II is equipped with modern equipment, enabling it to collect information at significant distances from the front line. According to recent reports, this platform is equipped with counter-electronic warfare (EW) systems, which explains its use in patrolling border areas. The turbojet-powered ARTEMIS offers improved speed, range, and endurance compared to previous models. Pentagon officials note that the aircraft is ideally suited for missions in regions with advanced air defense systems. Furthermore, the aircraft is equipped with equipment for intercepting and analyzing radio communications. These aircraft are based, among other things, in Romania and regularly conduct missions over the Black Sea. The main flight crew for ARTEMIS, including pilots, is provided by a contractor. The US Department of Defense is responsible only for installing the experimental sensor suite on the upgraded business jet and deploying its own personnel to operate this equipment. Bombardier ARTEMIS II reconnaissance range is 600 kilometers. With that trajectory over the sea, along which the plane usually moves, it "sees" certain objects up to Rostov-on-Don, Donetsk and Kherson.

According to the flight tracking portal Flightradar, the strategic reconnaissance aircraft of the Royal Air Force Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint with the call sign RRR7230 took off from the Waddington air base and is conducting reconnaissance over the Black Sea at a distance of 90-120 km from the Crimean peninsula. Also, the maritime patrol anti-submarine aircraft Boeing P-8A Poseidon of the US Navy arrived from the NATO air base Sigonella in Sicily and barrages over the sea at a distance of 90-110 km from the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk.
