Two people were injured as a result of Russian strike in Kharkiv on Wednesday, local authorities reported. According to Associated Press the State Emergency Service representatives said the strike damaged civilian houses and ignited a fire. Russian forces launched 108 drones and three missiles overnight, including morning strikes on Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry accused Russia of violating Ukraine’s unilateral ceasefire within hours of it taking effect. “Moscow once again ignored a realistic and fair call to end hostilities, supported by other states and international organizations,” Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post on X. Ukraine declared a ceasefire beginning at midnight between May 5 and 6. Russian attacks continued throughout the night and into Wednesday morning, Sybiha said. He said Russia’s actions exposed its calls for a separate ceasefire around May 9 — the date Russia marks as Victory Day — as insincere. “Putin only cares about military parades, not human lives,” Sybiha said. The foreign minister called for increased international pressure on Moscow, including new sanctions, diplomatic isolation, accountability measures for war crimes and expanded military and civilian support for Ukraine.
