Despite the ‘ceasefire’ it had announced, Russia continued shelling Ukrainian Defense Forces positions and carrying out drone attacks of various types.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that overnight, Russian forces launched more than 140 attacks on Ukrainian positions. Russian troops also carried out 10 assault operations, with the most intense fighting reported in the Sloviansk sector.
In addition, Russian forces used more than 850 drones of various types, including FPV drones, Lancet drones, and strike UAVs. The occupiers also continued using reconnaissance drones over frontline communities.
The President said Russia’s actions show that it is not even attempting to observe the ceasefire.

“All this clearly shows that there was not even an imitation of an attempt to cease fire on the front line from Russia,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
He stressed that, just as after the previous day, Ukraine would respond similarly based on today’s developments as well.
“We will defend our positions and the lives of our people. Russia must end its war, and everyone will truly notice when the path toward peace begins. Glory to Ukraine!” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the night of May 8 (starting from 6:00 p.m. on May 7), Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 67 strike UAVs, including Shahed-136 drones (including jet-powered variants), Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones.
The drones were launched from the directions of Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Millerovo in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
As of 8:00 a.m., Ukraine’s air defense had shot down or suppressed 56 enemy UAVs in southern and eastern Ukraine. Hits by 11 strike drones were recorded at eight locations, while debris from downed drones fell in seven locations.
Russia’s ‘Ceasefire’

On the evening of May 7, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced the introduction of a unilateral ‘ceasefire’ from May 8 to May 10.
Russian forces also violated the ceasefire regime introduced by Ukraine on the night of May 6 in response to Russia’s unilateral statement about a ‘ceasefire’ for May 8–9 continuing attacks and assault operations along the entire front line.
