Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday accused Ukraine of stalling negotations with Russia. According to Associated Press asked about U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lavrov told reporters after the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in China that Moscow was wondering whether Trump was aware of Russia’s openness for more talks with Ukraine. He argued that Moscow stands ready to continue the negotiations in Istanbul and accused Kyiv of dragging its feet on setting the date for the next round. He also claimed that Russia is able to cope with even more sanctions and that its trading partners would not “abandon their independent policy, their policy of observing agreements." Trump announced new measures targeting Russia over its ongoing war in Ukraine Monday, threatening steep tariffs if a peace deal isn’t reached within 50 days.
