At least 36 people have been injured as a result of an explosion of a gas-air mixture at a chemical production facility in Sterlitamak city in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, local media reported on Saturday. The explosion occurred in Tekhnicheskaya Street in the territory of Bashkir Soda Company, which is the largest Soda Ash and Baking soda producer in Russia. Footage posted on local social media after the explosion showed plumes of white smoke in the site of the incident as well as large number of victims lying around. According to information circulated in Telegram channels, the facility is linked to Putin’s friend, Russian businessman Arkady Rotenberg whose companies were reportedly involved in the illegal construction of the Crimean bridge. The explosion at the plant in Sterlitamak was caused by a depressurization of a process pipeline, the Bashkir Soda Company reported. A welding seam of the unit came apart, a gas leak occurred and the gas-air mixture exploded, however there was no fire.
