Since the first months of the full-scale invasion, a significant part of the Russian army’s supplies rested on the shoulders of Z-volunteers. They bought the occupiers uniforms, thermal imagers, drones and even food. However, after three and a half years, this system is bursting at the seams. People no longer want to donate money and are tired of a war that, in their opinion, has no end. The independent Russian publication The Insider writes about this . Z-activist Natalia from the Bryansk region, who collects donations for the Russian military, describes the situation gloomily: " When people ask me how things are in the volunteer movement, I answer: consistently bad. Everyone is very tired. Donations have decreased many times over ." According to her, businessmen have also stopped spending money on the Russian army, noting that " they have given everything away, they themselves are on the verge of survival ." Talk of a truce only deepened the decline. People are confident that the war will soon end, and so they stop transferring money. Another Z-activist Ruslan, also from the Bryansk region, became completely disillusioned and left the movement. He helped the Russian occupiers with his own money until he found out that the soldiers to whom he transferred almost one hundred thousand rubles spent them in a bathhouse on booze and women of easy virtue. " I felt like the last sucker, who was basically just milked , " he admitted. After that, the businessman stopped all support for Putin’s army. According to him, the attitude of civilians towards the military has changed dramatically: they have become as afraid of them as shelling. In the Kursk and Belgorod regions, people try not to accommodate the military in their homes, avoid contact and even warn children: " If you see our military, cross to the other side of the street ." Z-volunteer Elena from Kursk admits that she used to actively collect donations, but now her enthusiasm has faded: " There are very few donations. People are fed up ." If earlier she managed to collect 100 thousand rubles a day, now the amounts are in the thousands, and she has to take out a loan for generators herself. Z-volunteers note the rampant drunkenness of the Russian occupation army. The territories where the Russian Armed Forces soldiers are located are literally strewn with bottles of vodka and beer. Drunkenness is especially widespread among mobilized soldiers and volunteers who cannot withstand the psychological pressure and become alcoholics right on their positions. This burnout has affected not only civilians, but also the occupiers themselves, who are increasingly perceived as a threat to the population. Disappointment, fatigue and mistrust are turning the volunteer Z-movement, once considered the "mainstay of the front," into a shadow of its former self. Many of those surveyed agree on one thing: the war might not have happened, and then these problems would not have existed.
