Ukrainian troops have thwarted Russians’ attempts to cross the Dnipro River in a boat in Russian-occupied parts of southern Kherson region. Video footage capturing the operation by fighters of the 40th Coastal Defense Brigade of the Ukrainain Armed Forces has been released in social media. The video captures the moment the boat carrying Russian landing troops and speeding across the river is hit and destroyed by Ukrainian drones. Apart from the boat, Russian dugouts in the area have also been struck. Mostly kamikaze drones were used in the attacks. The operation illustrates difficulties faced by Russian army units in consolidating gains in the Dnipro region, where repeated attempts to cross the river have resulted in large-scale losses. The situation along the Dnipro River in Kherson remains one of the most difficult parts of the Russia-Ukraine war. The river divides the Ukrainian-controlled areas on the western bank from Russian-occupied territory on the eastern side. Ukrainian forces have been gradually increasing their presence on the left bank through raids and small-scale landings, targeting Russian positions, supply routes, and logistics hubs. These operations have pressured Russian troops and forced them to reinforce defensive lines, often consisting of trenches, artillery positions, and minefields. Ukraine’s tactical goal is to push Russian forces further from the river to reduce shelling of civilian areas in Kherson city and to open possibilities for broader offensives.
