Ukrainian troops from the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade eliminated a group of eight Russian saboteurs in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, during a unique operation using ground-based unmanned aerial vehicles and a large amount of explosives. A group of occupiers occupied an abandoned multi-story building to establish a base and prepare for further sabotage operations. Due to the insufficient number of personnel at the nearest positions, a direct assault was considered too risky, so the decision was made to deploy three ground drones. The first robot was used as bait: it approached the building and forced the saboteurs to open fire, revealing their positions. While the group’s attention was focused on the first device, another robotic complex approached the other side of the building. It was carrying approximately 300 kilograms of explosives. The saboteurs noticed the threat too late and attempted to take cover in an elevator shaft. However, after the detonation, a powerful explosion occurred, partially collapsing the building and trapping the occupants inside. Meanwhile, the third robot delivered additional weapons and anti-tank mines to the Ukrainian units in advance to block off the area. After the explosion, soldiers from the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade offered the trapped Russian soldiers the opportunity to surrender, but they refused and opened fire. The entire enemy group, consisting of eight men, was then eliminated. The operation became yet another example of the active use of robotic systems in modern warfare, which help carry out combat missions without loss of personnel.
The situation near Konstantinovka continues to slowly deteriorate—Russia’s creeping offensive is developing, war correspondent Bogdan Miroshnikov acknowledges. According to his observations, a new phase of the defensive operation is beginning—a stage of street fighting, as evidenced by the appearance of enemy groups near the railway station. In the Konstantinovsk direction, the enemy continues its creeping offensive. Unfortunately, it has some successes. This is especially true for the Ilyinovka and Berestok areas.
While previously small enemy groups would simply enter and mass, they have now brought up a second echelon and are beginning to consolidate their positions. The loss of Ilyinovka will give the enemy the opportunity to attack Konstakha, the largest residential district in the west of the city. There are also problems on the Chasiv Yar side – the occupier has begun actively trying to gain a foothold in the forest belt between Stupochki and Konstakha.
There are also offensive actions from Predtechin, aimed at securing a foothold all the way to the outskirts of Konstakha. But we effectively control nothing there, so it’s only a matter of time before the enemy consolidates its position in that large gray zone. In conditions where enemy groups begin to be detected at the railway station, it is already necessary to think directly about urban combat. It is obvious that in this direction the enemy command is implementing a plan that provides for a double operational envelopment of the entire Druzhkovka-Konstantinovka agglomeration with the goal of its gradual capture and further advance to the near approaches to Kramatorsk from the southeast and east.
